"If no one preserves and treasures what has happened here before, it will all disappear... The human voice that tells the story is one of the essential ways by which we connect with each other...We must treasure that."        - Wayson Choy

Director Michael Glassbourg turned his camera toward long-time friend Wayson Choy to explore the rich and extraordinary life of this storyteller, sage and activist. While Choy's writing focuses specifically on Chinese Canadians, his message crosses barriers of ethnic origin.

He reads passages from his books The Jade Peony and Paper Shadows while recalling his childhood in Vancouver. Black and white Super 8 footage shot in Chinatown evoke those early memories. This accomplished author speaks about the process of writing, memory, racism and the importance of history. His words will inspire those interested in Canadian literature, whether part of a visible minority or in the mainstream itself.
