Filmed in Whitehorse and at the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles, this film presents the work of Yukon artist Meshell Melvin. She uses the “Universal Movement” embroidery machine, invented in France in the 1860s, similarly to how an artist uses charcoal on a sketchpad. As she creates her unique portraits, this artist shares her philosophy on the artistic process.
