Through a queer reading of the male nude in Western art, a gay white filmmaker explores masculinity and desire, confirming Tom Kalin's assertion that "our flesh comes to us in history." A series of tableaux is composed of one, two, or three nude men in front of a background of ever-changing paintings from the Renaissance to the modern era. Challenging rigid dichotomies between masculinity and femininity, subject and object, and heterosexual and homosexual, the film explores both the production of desire and a desiring subjectivity in an attempt to affirm a utopia of bodies and pleasures.
