Spirit Wind is the name of a 26-foot birch bark canoe that was built by a crew of Mi'kmaq people from Miawpukek First Nation to cross the Cabot Strait from Newfoundland to Novia Scotia.

Their inspirational journey reconnected them to ancient rites, territories and traditions, and strengthened their vision as a people. It took three years and numerous attempts before the Miawpukek crew, under the helm of Sagamaw (Chief) Mi'sel Joe, crossed the waters between their ancient hunting districts. Despite many challenges, they reached Chapel Island on July 31, 1999 where they received a heroes' welcome from hundreds who had gathered there for the annual Mi'kmaq celebrations.
