Somewhere Between looks at the history of Canadian government legislation affecting Canada's aboriginal women and their traditional role in First Nations society. Five women talk about how they were alienated from their communities after they lost their legal status as Indians when they married non-native men.

Although the government sought to address this issue and reinstate Indian status for these women with the passage of Bill C31 in 1985, this legislation ties status to Band membership and leaves the power to grant membership for each Indian Band in the hands of the Bands themselves. In a number of cases, Indian Bands have refused to reinstate membership for women marrying non-native men. For these women the discrimination continues and their Indian status remains "somewhere between."

Also available as a 16mm print with advanced notice.
