Kisik, a Cree-Métis girl in Canada and Anika, a Maori girl in Aotearoa (New Zealand) share a long-distance friendship through social media. One morning they discover their potential for superpowers that are anchored in courage and compassion, the values of their people. They share their experiences as young Indigenous women and address life's challenges by talking to each other and creating a series of comics called Fierce Girls.
Loretta S. Todd, an award-winning Cree-Métis director, is the transmedia and website creator of this innovative cross-platform project. Artfully exploring a hybrid form of digital media storytelling that includes live action, social media, comics, and Indigenous hip hop, Todd creates an alternative representation of young Indigenous women that is both inspiring and uplifting. Fierce Girls is a celebration of the strength and beauty of being Indigenous in a challenging world.
