The Agawa Canyon is a shallow canyon located in the sparsely populated Algoma District of Northeastern Ontario. Its rugged beauty made it a favourite place for some of Canada's Group of Seven painters. Between 1918 and 1922 they visited the canyon on the Algoma Central Railway, staying in a sidecar the railway provided for them to use while they explored the beauty of the landscape in their paintings.
Harris Taylor's connection with the Agawa canyon began with her mother's first train trip in 1942 and continued until 2003 when the two of them took the train for a final visit to the canyon. The sounds of the train rolling through the terrain, her mother's recollections of a friendship with Paddy O'Reilly (guide for the Group of Seven painters), family photos and paintings celebrate the beauty of the canyon and evoke an era when people made time to connect with nature.
