Allan W. Hopkins


Allan Hopkins is a writer, director and producer with over fifteen years of professional experience. He graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and a Minor Degree in Film and Video Studies. He is proud member of the N'quatqua First Nation, located in Lil'wat traditional territory. A proponent of telling First Nation stories from a First Nation perspective, one of his first jobs after graduating SFU was at the CTV Bell Media Aboriginal current events series, First Story. He began as field producer and eventually became the senior producer and responsible for all aspects of production and post production for the series.

Since 2016, Allan his concentrated on writing feature screenplays and launching a career as a writer/director. In 2017 he wrote and directed a feature comedy called, Indian Road Trip. This film is due to be released in the fall of 2018. He has also written many TV pilots and feature film scripts on spec and was hired to write, rewrite and to write feature scripts by production companies. He has won multiple awards for news, current events and journalism and in 2016 he received the Whistler Film Festival BC's Got Talent Spotlight Award.

Allan Hopkins has a particular interest in the people and culture of BC's First Nations people. He intents to continue to hone his skills as a writer and director, with the ultimate goal of establishing himself as prominent BC filmmaker who specializes in writing and directing comedy from a First Nation perspective.

Allan will be starting an MFA in the Creative Writing Program at UBC in the fall of 2018.
