Rita Jasper

Rita Jasper, a Metis, spent her childhood days hiking through the Rocky Mountain forests of Jasper with an old brownie camera, sketching paper and lined paper for stories or poetry. Rita's mother was ill and died a month before Rita turned 12, but her mother had encouraged her artistic talents and the pursuit of art, which provided Rita with a way to escape into other realities, deal with tragedy and find clarity; she carries this into her film making.

Weaving all her diverse creative talents together, she produces informative, sensitive works of art. Rita's work shows how people emotionally relate to art, nature and each other or community. She hopes her work will help make the world a better place to live.
