Haslett Cuff

Award-winning journalist and filmmaker John Haslett Cuff is the writer/producer and director of Actuality: The Art and Life of Allan King (2006) and the Gemini-award winning Crimes of the Heart (2004).

Since forming his company Aysha Productions in 1997 with his wife Sun-Kyung Yi, Haslett Cuff also wrote and produced Thai Girls (1998); Hostages to Justice (2000); Vanishing Acts (2001); North Korea: Inside the Hermit Kingdom (2004); and Made in Hong Kong (2004). In addition he produced and directed Love Is Not Enough (2002) a 13-part reality series on marriages in trouble. Haslett Cuff and Yi have collaborated over a dozen critically acclaimed documentary films which have garnered national and international awards, and enjoyed broadcast worldwide.

For decades John Haslett Cuff has been one of the most distinctive voices in Canadian television, as the award -winning television critic of The Globe and Mail (1986-97) and as co-creator of Aysha Productions Inc.

Twice a recipient of the National Newspaper Award for Best Critical Writing, Haslett Cuff wrote features, reviews and daily columns about television in which he discussed the role of television in culture and society and tirelessly emphasized the critical importance of public television to a healthy democracy.

Haslett Cuff is also a former private investigator, actor (Psycho Girls, Deadly Business, The Newsroom), film critic and journalist.

He lives in Toronto with his wife Sun-Kyung Yi and their two children Aysha and Adrian.
