Jan-Marie Martell

American expatriate Jan-Marie Martell immigrated to Canada in 1969, bringing with her a love of photography and experimental filmmaking. After finishing a master's degree in theatre and film at the University of British Columbia, Martell freelanced as a filmmaker for the National Film Board and went on to become an instructor in the film program at Emily Carr College of Art and Design where she works today. Her 15-year collaboration with Annie Zetko York began in 1977. During those years Martell also worked as a freelance director, cinematographer, still photographer, and poet.
