Dr. Raoul McKay

Dr. Raoul McKay, who grew up in a Mechif community completed four university degrees including his PhD in history at the University of Toronto. One of his majors in Canadian History was the History of Native Peoples including a comprehensive study of the Heritage and Life of the Métis of Canada, and a thesis on Treaty 5 (1875 to 1935).

Raoul taught at the public school and university levels for several years and developed programs and courses for Trent, Lakehead, and McMaster University. He established the Department of Native Studies at the University of Manitoba.

Raoul's knowledge on the history and life of Canada's Indigenous people is based on both the written and oral tradition of the Métis and First Nations people. He knows intimately the background and aspirations of the Métis and First Nations through studies, experience, and his personal background.

Raoul founded the production company First Voice Multimedia Inc to produce videos about the heritage and lives of Indigenous people in North America. This company's objectives are to create appealing and informative videos on the heritage and lives of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people of Canada. His documentaries--La Voix des Mechif, Standing Tall, The Life and Work of the Woodland Artists, The Life and Work of Daphne Odjig, The Life and Work of Alex Janvier and The Power of the Spirit--all reflect those objectives.
