Dena Ashbaugh

Dena Ashbaugh never imagined she'd become a filmmaker, but after five years of modeling in Asia, she returned to Vancouver BC and attended Simon Fraser University where she pursued studies for a joint major in Arts, Cultural Studies and Anthropology.  She also began acting in commercials and film and television shows with roles in DaVinci's Inquest, Psyche, Reaper, Andromeda, and Douglas Coupland's jPod

Dena's studies and work in media led her question both the world she lived in and her long and arduous struggle with anorexia and bulimia. This exploration began with the more experimental and abstract film the lines i draw upon my body and was followed by her collaboration with Sonja Ruebsaat in the documentary No Numbers: Identity Beyond Measure which includes the stories of three different women and reflects on the role that media plays on body image and disordered eating.
