Joseph Paithouski

Cityaniscape
9 min. 1987

This black and white artistic travelogue pokes and probes the city of Calgary through the eyes of four very different cinematographers. Each looks at a particular and unique area to contribute to an overall sense of the city's texture. The four sections are creatively connected through poetic narrative and accompanying images of transportation, which stress the relationship between working and living in the city.

Sylvie Peltier

LouLou: Prisonnière de ses Passions
10 min. b/w 1995
(Also available in French.)

Filmmaker Sylvie Peltier mixes reality and the fantastic in this poignant portrait of her grandmother. Her fusion of old photographs together with a newly created underwater dream sequence eloquently tells the story of her grandmother's dramatic love life. Initially, we see Peltier's grandmother as her child-like self did, simply someone who takes care of her. As the film progresses we begin to realize, like Peltier, that this woman is a vital passionate human being.

Awards: Golden Sheaf for Best Experimental Film, Yorkton International Film & Video Festival; nominated for Best Short Film category, New York Festivals.

Subject(s): Aging, Family, Nostalgia, Relationships, Women
